YIEON at Shanghai Fair Going to Austria 2025
November 3–4, 2025 · Austria Center Vienna
Shanghai Fair Going to Austria is a platform for Shanghai brands to meet European markets through exhibition, promotion and business exchange. Its purpose is practical: to introduce the making, services and design capability of Shanghai to new audiences and professional partners.
What question did Vienna pose for YIEON?
For YIEON, Vienna posed a clear question: can Chinese craft become a contemporary product language that people across cultures can recognise, wear and choose for themselves?
How does YIEON approach heritage?
Our answer begins with the object. A YIEON piece must first stand on its own through form, material and design. Its craft is not presented as a lesson that must be understood before the piece can be appreciated. It is built into the object: in the texture of natural lacquer, the shifting light of mother-of-pearl, the precision of filigree, and the way these materials are made ready for contemporary life.
This is how YIEON approaches heritage. We do not make objects intended only for display. We select techniques that can hold visual distinction, material value, everyday relevance and a stable standard of making. Design translates that knowledge into jewellery and gifts that can travel with the people who choose them.
Why does the cultural story come after the first encounter?
The cultural story remains essential—but it comes after the first encounter. A wearer may first notice colour, light or an unfamiliar detail. Then comes the question of where it came from, how it was made, and why it feels unlike something already on the market.
Chinese craft can remain specific in origin while speaking through a modern design language.
Why does this exchange matter?
In Vienna, YIEON joined a wider Shanghai-brand conversation with that proposition. It does not need to imitate another aesthetic to be internationally understood.
