What is Natural Lacquer?

This "pure natural" resin is harvested by carefully cutting the tree’s bark to collect a white, viscous emulsion, which hardens into a resilient coating. The harvesting process is incredibly intricate — artisans must cut the bark precisely in the middle of the night, switching clam shells every few seconds to preserve the lacquer’s purity. Remarkably, a single lacquer tree yields only about 10 kg of raw lacquer in its lifetime, and it takes resin from 3000 trees to produce just 1 kg of finished lacquer.
