Lacquer, or Daqi, is one of China’s oldest traditional crafts, with a legacy of over 8000 years. From ancient ritual objects to modern design, it reflects timeless patience, harmony with nature, and refined aesthetics. In 1990, a red lacquered wooden strip — buried for 8000 years — was unearthed under Hangzhou’s Kuanhu Bridge. Its color remained vivid, a lasting testament to the strength and elegance of natural lacquer, known as the “king of coatings.” Today, this heritage lives on in our handmade lacquer jewelry—where history, nature, and artistry come together in every bead.

Behind each lacquered bead lies a patient journey—often taking weeks or even months to complete. The process begins with harvesting raw lacquer from trees, a task only possible in warm, humid months and done by hand in small quantities. Natural materials are then inlaid, followed by meticulous carving and hand-painting. Each lacquer layer—applied up to 30 times—must dry and be polished for hours or days, depending on humidity and temperature. The final transparent coat seals in the richness, creating a finish that can last for generations.
